Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation
مؤسسه خیریه خوییThe Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation is an international Shia Islamic charitable and educational organization founded by Grand Ayatollah Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei and headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It was established to promote Shia Islamic learning, culture, and charitable work worldwide. The foundation operates Islamic centers, mosques, and educational institutions across Europe, North America, and other regions.
Following the death of its founder in 1992, the Foundation continued under the stewardship of his family and associates. Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, as al-Khoei's successor and the leading marja of Najaf, maintains an institutional affiliation with the foundation's mission of spreading quietist Shia scholarship and humanitarian relief.
The foundation gained international attention in April 2003 when Abd al-Majid al-Khoei — son of its founder and a representative sent to post-Saddam Najaf — was murdered in the Imam Ali Shrine in Najaf shortly after the US-led invasion of Iraq, a killing widely attributed to supporters of Muqtada al-Sadr.
