The Islamic Revolutionary Courts (Dadgah-ha-ye Enqelab-e Eslami) were established in February 1979 immediately after the Iranian Revolution to try individuals accused of crimes against the revolution, including former officials of the Pahlavi regime, political dissidents, and those charged with "corruption on earth" (mofsed-e fel-arz) or "enmity against God" (moharebeh). Initially presided over by Sadegh Khalkhali under the authority of Ruhollah Khomeini, the courts conducted summary trials with minimal due process. The courts remain an active part of Iran's judiciary, handling cases involving national security, narcotics, and political offences.
