Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution
شورای عالی انقلاب فرهنگی State Institution Founded 1984
The Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution is an Iranian state body created in December 1984 to succeed the original seven-member Cultural Revolution Committee (also known as the Cultural Revolution Headquarters) that Ruhollah Khomeini established in June 1980. The original committee was charged with closing universities, purging them of Western and secular influences, and reshaping academic curricula along Islamic lines during the Iranian Cultural Revolution. The council continues to set cultural and educational policy for the Islamic Republic, including oversight of universities, regulation of the internet, and media policy.
