Toufan Organization

The Toufan Organization (Organization of Toilers of Iran, Sazman-e Toufan) is Iran's principal Maoist political organization, distinct from the pro-Soviet Tudeh Party of Iran and from the guerrilla-oriented Fadaiyan currents. Founded in 1964 as a Maoist breakaway from the Tudeh Party, Toufan embraced the Sino-Soviet split and aligned with the People's Republic of China against Soviet revisionism. The organization participated in the pre-revolutionary opposition and remained active after the 1979 revolution, publishing theoretical journals from exile. Toufan has maintained a consistent Maoist ideological line and criticised both the Soviet-aligned left and the more popular worker-communist tendency associated with Mansoor Hekmat.
