Ali Reza Pahlavi was the second son of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and Farah Pahlavi, and the younger brother of Reza Pahlavi. He was second in line to the Pahlavi succession.
After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the family went into exile. Ali Reza studied at Princeton University and later pursued graduate studies at Harvard and Columbia, focusing on ancient Iranian history and philology.
He died by suicide on 4 January 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts. His death was a significant personal blow to the Pahlavi family and the Iranian exile community.
