Majid Shahriari was an Iranian nuclear physicist and professor at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. He was involved in Iran's civilian nuclear programme, working on reactor physics and neutron transport calculations. On 29 November 2010, Shahriari was killed in a car-bombing in Tehran — a bomb was attached to his vehicle by a motorcyclist while he was driving his wife to work. His wife survived. The same morning, Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani survived a similar attack in a separate part of Tehran. The coordinated attacks were part of a broader campaign of targeted killings against Iranian nuclear scientists between 2010 and 2012, widely attributed to Israeli intelligence (Mossad). Shahriari's killing was one of the most significant in this series; Iran's government accused the United States and Israel.
