Majid Sharif was a writer, translator, and sociologist — a great-grandson of Ayatollah Habib Sharif Kashani. He held a Ph.D. in sociology. On 19 November 1998, Sharif disappeared during a morning jog. His body was found on 25 November; the official cause of death was listed as 'cardiac arrest,' but it was later established that he had been killed via potassium injection by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence. His death, occurring just days before the murder of Dariush and Parvaneh Forouhar, was part of the chain murders campaign.
