Mehdi Ahmadinejad

Mehdi Ahmadinejad is the elder son of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. His marriage to the daughter of Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei — completed around 2008 — cemented the personal bond between two of the most powerful figures in the Ahmadinejad circle and is widely cited as a key element of the 'deviant current' (jaryān-e enherafī) family network. The marriage made Ahmadinejad and Mashaei fathers-in-law to each other's children, a relationship that deepened their political and personal alliance throughout the presidency (2005–2013) and its turbulent aftermath.

As the political and legal pressure on the Ahmadinejad circle intensified after 2017 — with Mashaei sentenced to prison in 2018 and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad himself subjected to movement restrictions and judicial harassment — Mehdi Ahmadinejad has faced his own brushes with Iranian judicial authorities, consistent with the broader pattern of state pressure against the family network.
