Mohammad Khamenei is a Shia cleric and the brother of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He was elected to the Assembly of Experts for the Constitution in 1979, representing Khorasan Province with over 60% of the vote. He was among the 53 assembly members who voted in favor of the velayat-e faqih provisions that granted sweeping powers to the Supreme Leader. He has maintained a relatively low political profile compared to his brother.
