Rosewater (2014 film)

Rosewater is a 2014 biographical drama film written and directed by Jon Stewart, based on the memoir 'Then They Came for Me' by Maziar Bahari. The film depicts Bahari's 118-day imprisonment in Evin Prison in 2009 following the disputed Iranian presidential election and the Green Movement protests. Bahari, an Iranian-Canadian journalist working for Newsweek, was arrested and subjected to interrogation and psychological torture. His interrogator — referred to as 'Rosewater' after his cologne — used a clip of Bahari's interview on The Daily Show as evidence of espionage. The film received international attention for humanising the experience of political detention under the Islamic Republic and bringing the issue of press freedom in Iran to a global mainstream audience.
