The Fadaiyan-e Khalq (Majority) split from the Organization of Iranian People's Fadai Guerrillas in 1980, adopting a pro-Soviet line similar to the Tudeh Party. The Majority faction abandoned armed struggle and initially supported the Islamic Republic, believing in a two-stage revolution theory where the anti-imperialist phase must precede socialist transformation. This collaboration with the regime proved disastrous: when the government cracked down on leftists in 1983, many Majority members were arrested, imprisoned, and executed alongside Tudeh members in the 1988 mass executions. Surviving members fled to exile. The organization continues to operate from abroad, having evolved toward social-democratic positions.
