Iran Mall

Iran Mall is the world's largest shopping mall by area, located in northwest Tehran by Chitgar Lake. Conceived by Ali Ansari around 2000, construction began in 2012 and the first phase opened on 1 May 2018 with 267,000 square metres of gross leasable area and 708 retail units.

The project was financed primarily through Ayandeh Bank, which directed approximately 70 percent of its total lending — some 97 thousand billion tomans — to Iran Mall and related entities. The majority of these loans became non-performing. In December 2020, the complex was announced for sale at $3.5 billion. Over 1,200 contractors and 25,000 workers participated in its construction.
