MintPress News

MintPress News is a US-based independent online outlet founded in 2011 by Mnar Muhawesh (now Adley) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The site publishes commentary and reporting on US foreign policy, the Middle East, and geopolitics from an anti-establishment, anti-interventionist perspective. BuzzFeed News described its editorial stance in 2013 as aligning with the Islamic Republic of Iran — sympathetic to the Syrian and Iranian governments, hostile to Saudi Arabia, and critical of Western military intervention. The outlet has received NewsGuard's 'red' rating for failing to adhere to basic journalistic standards. MintPress was one of several English-language platforms through which pro-Iran narratives were laundered into Western alternative media. Catherine Perez-Shakdam was a regular contributor between 2014 and 2017, writing under her married name Catherine Shakdam.
