The Nation of Iran Party (Hezb-e Mellat-e Iran) is one of the oldest nationalist-democratic political parties in Iran, founded in 1951 during the oil nationalisation movement. Led for decades by Dariush Forouhar, it advocated for secular democracy, free elections, and the rule of law. Forouhar and his wife Parvaneh Forouhar were assassinated in their home on 22 November 1998 as part of the chain murders. The party has been effectively banned since the early Islamic Republic but maintained an informal presence through the Forouhars' political salon.
