Abbas Araghchi

Abbas Araghchi is Iran's current Foreign Minister under Masoud Pezeshkian. A career diplomat, he served as Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs and was Iran's lead technical nuclear negotiator during the JCPOA talks under Mohammad Javad Zarif. He was one of the architects of the 2015 nuclear deal. After the deal's collapse he remained at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a senior official. His appointment as FM under Pezeshkian was seen as a signal of continuity with the reformist-era foreign policy school. His early tenure has been shaped by the post-2026 succession crisis and Iran's recalibrated position under Mojtaba Khamenei.
