Ahmad-Reza Radan is the Commander-in-Chief of the Law Enforcement Command of Iran, appointed in January 2023 by Ali Khamenei. A veteran security official, Radan previously served as deputy commander of Iran's police force during the 2009 Green Movement protests, where he oversaw the violent crackdown on demonstrators. He is under EU and US sanctions for his role in the suppression of protests. During the January 2026 massacres, police forces under his command used live ammunition against protesters as part of the coordinated security response ordered by the Supreme National Security Council.
