Bijan Namdar Zanganeh
بیژن نامدار زنگنهFormer Minister of Petroleum (1997–2005, 2013–2021); longest-serving Oil Minister in the Islamic Republic
Bijan Namdar Zanganeh served as Iran's Minister of Petroleum under both Mohammad Khatami (1997–2005) and Hassan Rouhani (2013–2021) — twelve years in total, the longest oil ministerial tenure in the Islamic Republic's history. He is closely associated with the technocratic and pragmatist camp, and with Iran's efforts to attract foreign investment and maintain OPEC standing. His nomination by Rouhani was criticised by hardline newspapers. He is regarded as one of the most capable technocrats in Iranian economic history, having overseen Iran's oil expansion during the Khatami years and the post-JCPOA production recovery. He was replaced by Javad Owji under Ebrahim Raisi.
