Mahmoud Nabavian

Mahmoud Nabavian is a Shia cleric who topped the Tehran ballot in the 2024 parliamentary election with the highest vote count in the capital. A student of Mohammad-Taqi Mesbah Yazdi and a senior member of the Front of Islamic Revolution Stability, he has been a fierce opponent of Iran's nuclear diplomacy, comparing the JCPOA to Iran's humiliating 1828 territorial concessions to Russia. He attacked Mohammad Javad Zarif over the nuclear deal and was accused of lobbying against its revival in Vienna in 2022. He holds a PhD in philosophy from the Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute. Previously served in the 9th Majlis (2012–2016).
