The Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles-e Shura-ye Eslami), commonly known as the Majlis or Majles, is the unicameral legislature of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It currently has 290 seats, elected for four-year terms. All candidates must be vetted and approved by the Guardian Council. The Majlis can legislate, ratify treaties, and impeach the president, but all legislation must pass Guardian Council review for conformity with Islamic law and the constitution.
