Mehdi Karroubi

Mehdi Karroubi served as Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly twice. A presidential candidate in 2009, he refused to accept the disputed official results and became a co-leader of the Green Movement alongside Mir-Hossein Mousavi. He has been held under house arrest in Tehran since February 2011 without trial, one of the most prominent political detainees in the Islamic Republic.
