Association of Combatant Clerics

The Association of Combatant Clerics (Majma'-e Rowhaniyoun-e Mobarez, MRM) broke away from the conservative Combatant Clergy Association in 1988. It is the reformist counterpart in clerical politics, associated with the Islamic left and later the reform movement. Key figures include Mehdi Karroubi and Mohammad Khatami (the president). It supports political liberalisation within an Islamic framework.
