Expediency Discernment Council

The Expediency Discernment Council of the System (Majma'-e Tashkhis-e Maslahat-e Nezam) was established by Khomeini in 1988 to resolve legislative disputes between the Majlis and Guardian Council. It also acts as an advisory body to the Supreme Leader. Membership is appointed by the Supreme Leader and typically includes former presidents, senior clerics, and military figures, making it a powerful gathering point for Iran's political elite.
