صادق آملی لاریجانیChairman of Expediency Discernment Council (2018–present); former Chief Justice (2009–2019); former Guardian Council member (2001–2021)
Sadegh Amoli Larijani is the younger brother of former Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and one of the most powerful figures in Iranian jurisprudence. He served as Chief Justice for a decade (2009–2019) and simultaneously sat on the Guardian Council from 2001. His tenure as Chief Justice was characterised by mass prosecutions of Green Movement figures, executions of political prisoners and juveniles, and widespread corruption allegations. He was removed from the judiciary in 2019 and replaced by Ebrahim Raisi. He resigned from the Guardian Council in September 2021 in a public protest after the Council disqualified his brother Ali Larijani from the presidential race. He was appointed chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council by Ali Khamenei in December 2018, replacing the late Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi.
