Parviz Davoodi served as the First Vice President of Iran from September 2005 to July 2009 under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. An economist with a Ph.D. from Iowa State University, he was also a professor at Shahid Beheshti University.

Davoodi's replacement in July 2009 triggered one of the most significant confrontations between Ahmadinejad and Ali Khamenei. Ahmadinejad attempted to replace Davoodi with Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, but Khamenei publicly vetoed the appointment within days, forcing Ahmadinejad to back down. This episode marked a turning point in the Khamenei-Ahmadinejad relationship.

After leaving the vice presidency, Davoodi remained a member of the Expediency Discernment Council until his death. He died in Tehran on 18 April 2024 at the age of 72.
