Mohammad-Ali Rajai was Iran's second president, serving for less than one month after his election on 24 July 1981. A committed revolutionary and former teacher, he had previously served as prime minister. He and his prime minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar were assassinated in a bombing at the prime minister's office on 30 August 1981, an attack attributed to the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK).
