Mohammad Mokhber

Mohammad Mokhber served as Ebrahim Raisi's First Vice President from 2021 and automatically became acting President upon Raisi's death on 19 May 2024, serving in that capacity until Masoud Pezeshkian was inaugurated in late July 2024. Before politics, Mokhber was the long-serving head of Setad Ejraiye Farmane Hazrat Emam (Setad), the vast conglomerate operating under the direct control of the Office of the Supreme Leader, estimated to control assets worth tens of billions of dollars. His tenure at Setad made him one of Khamenei's most trusted operational executives. He is subject to US and EU sanctions.
