The Forqan Group (Goruh-e Forqan) was a small militant Islamist organisation that carried out a series of assassinations in the chaotic months following the 1979 revolution. It assassinated Morteza Motahhari on 1 May 1979 and attempted to kill Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. The group opposed clerical rule, arguing for a return to the Quran without clerical intermediaries. Its members were arrested and executed by 1980.
