PJAK (Partiya Jiyana Azad a Kurdistanê) is an Iranian Kurdish militant and political organisation founded in 2004, operating primarily from the Qandil Mountains along the Iran-Iraq border. Ideologically and organisationally linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), PJAK follows the democratic confederalism philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan. The group has conducted armed operations against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces in the border regions of Kurdistan and Kermanshah provinces. Iran and Turkey have designated it a terrorist organisation. PJAK advocates for Kurdish self-governance within Iran through a decentralised, non-state model.
