Shargh

Shargh (شرق, 'East') is the most durable reformist daily of the post-Khatami era, founded in 2003. Suspended multiple times — most notably in September 2006 simultaneously with the lifting of the Iran newspaper ban, and after the 2009 Green Movement — yet consistently resumed. Journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi of Shargh broke the Mahsa Amini story in September 2022 and were imprisoned 17 months for it.
