Hamid Ashraf
حمید اشرفOperational leader of the Organization of Iranian People's Fadai Guerrillas, 1971–1976
Hamid Ashraf (1946–1976) was the most celebrated operational commander of the Organization of Iranian People's Fadai Guerrillas. After the founding generation of the Fadaiyan was decimated — Amir Parviz Pouyan killed in 1971, Bijan Jazani executed in 1975, and Massoud Ahmadzadeh executed in 1972 — Ashraf kept the organisation's underground network operational against sustained SAVAK pressure for five years. His ability to evade capture despite massive counter-insurgency operations gave him a near-legendary status on the Iranian left. On 29 June 1976, SAVAK forces located a safe house in Tehran; Ashraf and eight comrades were killed in the ensuing raid. His death marked the effective end of the OIPFG's armed campaign before the revolution, though the organisation reconstituted itself politically after 1979.
