Amir Parviz Pouyan
امیر پرویز پویانCo-founder of the Ahmadzadeh-Pouyan group and theorist of armed struggle
Amir Parviz Pouyan (1946–1971) was an Iranian Marxist revolutionary and co-founder of the underground cell known as the Ahmadzadeh-Pouyan group, which merged with Bijan Jazani's organisation in 1971 to establish the Organization of Iranian People's Fadai Guerrillas. Alongside Massoud Ahmadzadeh, Pouyan developed the theoretical justification for armed struggle against the Shah's regime. His essay The Necessity of Armed Struggle and the Refutation of the Theory of Survival (1970) became one of the foundational texts of the Iranian guerrilla left, arguing that passive politics was both morally and strategically bankrupt under a dictatorship. Pouyan participated in the Siahkal incident and was killed in a confrontation with SAVAK forces in May 1971, just months after the founding operation, becoming one of the movement's first martyrs.
