Mohammad Marandi is a professor of English literature at the University of Tehran and a documented regime spokesperson who presents himself on Western media as an independent academic analyst. IranWire has described him as "Iran's chief propagandist in English"; Iran International calls him a regime "mouthpiece."

Marandi served as an official adviser to Iran's nuclear negotiations delegation in Vienna, a role he held through the 2021–2022 JCPOA revival talks. His presence at the negotiating table was confirmed by multiple diplomatic correspondents. Despite this official government position, he continued to appear on the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, Channel 4, and RT billed as an "independent analyst" — a framing that misrepresents his formal advisory status.

In October 2024, the Jewish Chronicle published a photograph of Marandi in Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) uniform, indicating a military affiliation beyond his academic and advisory roles.

Marandi's father, Seyed Ali Marandi, is Ali Khamenei's personal physician — a familial proximity to the Supreme Leader that informs Marandi's access and institutional standing.

Marandi is a regular defender of Iranian state positions across international broadcast media, including during periods of mass protests (2009, 2019, 2022) and following the killing of Iranian commanders. His appearances consistently track with Islamic Republic official lines.
