Hamid Taqvaee is the longtime leader of the Worker-communist Party of Iran (WPI), the principal organisation of the Iranian worker-communist movement founded by Mansoor Hekmat. After Hekmat's death in 2002, Taqvaee emerged as the dominant figure in the WPI, steering it through the 2004 factional split that produced the rival Hekmatist Party led by Koorosh Modarresi. Under Taqvaee's leadership the WPI has maintained a strong secularist and internationalist stance, opposing both the Islamic Republic and imperialist intervention. He is one of the most prominent voices of the Iranian Marxist left in exile.
