Mohammad Karami
محمد کرمیCommander of IRGC Ground Forces (2025–present); former Governor of Sistan and Baluchestan
Mohammad Karami is a Brigadier General in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who has served as Commander of the IRGC Ground Forces since June 2025, appointed by Ali Khamenei. He replaced Mohammad Pakpour, who was promoted to IRGC commander-in-chief.
Karami previously served as Governor of Sistan and Baluchestan Province (2022–2024) under President Ebrahim Raisi. Before that, he commanded the IRGC South-East Quds Operational Base in Zahedan, responsible for security along the Pakistan border. Human rights organizations have linked him to the violent crackdown in Sistan and Baluchestan during the 2022 Mahsa Amini protests, particularly the September 30 "Bloody Friday" massacre in Zahedan in which security forces killed at least 70 protesters.
Karami has been sanctioned by the United States (2020), Canada (2021), the European Union (January 2023), and the United Kingdom (February 2023) for human rights violations.
