Major General Mohammad Pakpour was an IRGC career officer who served as Commander of the IRGC Ground Forces from 2014 before being elevated to IRGC Commander-in-Chief following the death of Hossein Salami in June 2025. A veteran of the Iran–Iraq War, Pakpour commanded cross-border IRGC operations against Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq and was closely associated with proxy force coordination. As IRGC Commander-in-Chief he oversaw the organisation during the highly degraded post-Twelve-Day War period, attempting to reconstitute command structures decimated by Israeli strikes. He was killed on 28 February 2026 in Israeli airstrikes as part of a sustained campaign targeting Iran's military leadership. His appointment had been confirmed by Ali Khamenei.
