2020 Iranian Parliamentary Election (11th Majlis)
21 Feb 2020
election
The February 2020 parliamentary election produced another conservative sweep, with the Guardian Council disqualifying over 9,000 candidates including many moderate incumbents. Turnout was a record low of approximately 42% nationally and around 25% in Tehran. The principlist coalition won a large majority, and IRGC-aligned figure Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was elected Speaker days later. The election represented the full consolidation of hardliner control over the legislature.
