Neshat (نشاط, 'Joy/Happiness') was the third iteration of Mashallah Shamsolvaezin's serial chain, built on the dormant Akhbar license. Staff from Tous and Jame'eh formed the core. In September 1999 Press Court Judge Saeed Mortazavi closed it after it published an open letter urging Khamenei to distance himself from hardliners, and Emadeddin Baghi's article criticising capital punishment. Shamsolvaezin was sentenced to 30 months — but founded Asr-e Azadegan before he could be imprisoned.
