Farajollah Haidar

Iranian intelligence operative; getaway driver in the Mykonos restaurant assassination (1992); fugitive with outstanding German arrest warrant

intelligence

Farajollah Haidar (also known as Abu Ja'far) is an Iranian operative who served as the getaway driver for the team that carried out the Mykonos restaurant assassination on 17 September 1992 in Berlin. The attack killed Sadegh Sharafkandi, Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, and three associates.

Haidar was part of a five-person operational cell coordinated by Kazem Darabi. While the two gunmen — Abdol-Rahman Banihashemi and Abbas Rhayel — carried out the killings, Haidar drove the vehicle used to flee the scene. Haidar successfully escaped from Germany after the attack, initially relocating to Lebanon before later moving to Iran, where he is believed to be working for the IRGC. An outstanding German arrest warrant remains in effect. Some sources identify him under the alias Haidar Hesari, though his full name is confirmed as Farajollah Haidar in trial records.
