Sadegh Sharafkandi (1938–1992) was a Kurdish physician and political leader who served as Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan from 1989 until his assassination. He assumed the leadership after the assassination of Abdul Rahman Ghassemlou in Vienna. On 17 September 1992, Sharafkandi and three companions were shot dead at the Mykonos restaurant in Berlin by agents linked to the Iranian government. The subsequent German trial (1993–1997) produced a landmark verdict directly implicating senior Iranian leaders — including Ali Khamenei, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, and Ali Fallahian — in ordering the killings, triggering the recall of all EU ambassadors from Tehran.
