intelligence

Abbas Rhayel is a Lebanese national and Hezbollah operative convicted by a German court for his role in the Mykonos restaurant assassination on 17 September 1992 in Berlin. Recruited by Kazem Darabi, Rhayel served as one of the two gunmen who carried out the killings of PDKI Secretary-General Sadegh Sharafkandi and three associates. German forensic investigators found Rhayel's palm print on one of the pistol magazines and traces of blood from victim Nouri Dehkordi on the weapon.

Rhayel was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Berlin Court of Appeals in April 1997. Despite international protests, he was released from prison on 10 December 2007 and deported to Lebanon alongside Kazem Darabi.
