Kazem Darabi is an Iranian national convicted by a German court for his role as the principal organiser of the Mykonos restaurant assassination in Berlin on 17 September 1992. Working as a greengrocer and Iranian intelligence asset in Germany, Darabi coordinated the attack in which PDKI Secretary-General Sadegh Sharafkandi and three associates were shot dead. Darabi recruited Abbas Rhayel, an experienced Hezbollah operative, as one of the two gunmen who carried out the killings. He was convicted by the Berlin Court of Appeals in April 1997 and sentenced to life imprisonment. The court found that the killings were ordered by Iran's Committee for Special Operations — a body that included Ali Khamenei, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Ali Fallahian, and Ali Akbar Velayati. Darabi was released and deported to Iran in December 2007 after serving ten years.
